Money Basics downloads and spreadsheet templates
Every calculator in Money Basics is also a spreadsheet you can keep. Find them on the Downloads page (/basics/downloads/), available with a Money Basics enrollment.
Files
- Money Basics workbook: every tool in one file.
- Paycheck and budget: gross to net pay with this year's tax tables, a 50/30/20 budget and a spending tracker.
- Interest and investing: simple versus compound interest, the rule of 72, and the start-early comparison.
- Loans and credit cards: a full amortization schedule and a credit card payoff table.
- Cost of living and taxes: every tax in a year, with a state-by-state table.
- Health insurance comparison: two plans in a light, medium and heavy year.
- Car and first home: the true monthly cost of each, and the cash needed to buy.
- Savings goal planner: the monthly amount for any goal.
- Money Basics guide (PDF): a printable summary of every lesson.
Opening them: Excel, Google Sheets (File, then Import, then Upload) and Apple Numbers all work. Blue cells are inputs; change them. Everything else is a formula; click a cell to see how it's calculated.
Tax numbers are for the current tax year and use simplified rules (a single filer, the standard deduction, no credits). They're for learning, not for filing a tax return.
